Obverse description Central field occupied by the large interlaced royal cypher of Frederick III, formed by the letters F and a reversed C or D, all surmounted by an open royal crown with arched band and jewelled rim. The monogram is rendered in bold relief in the baroque style characteristic of mid-17th century Danish coinage. A beaded inner circle frames the central device, with a Latin legend in the outer margin running along the coin's periphery.

Reverse description Central field displaying a crowned shield of arms bearing the lion passant of Schleswig or Holstein, the shield surmounted by an ornate open royal crown with foliate cresting. The date appears within the encircling Latin legend at the upper left of the field, between beaded inner and outer borders. The heraldic composition is executed in the robust, somewhat roughly struck style typical of hammered coinage of the period.
