| Obverse description | Unadorned right-facing bust of King Christian IX of Denmark, rendered in fine relief with naturalistically detailed wavy hair and a full beard. The portrait is struck in a restrained, academic style characteristic of mid-to-late 19th-century Scandinavian coinage.
