| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Christian IX of Denmark, rendered with finely detailed wavy hair and a trimmed beard, occupying the majority of the obverse field. The engraver's initials HC appear incuse at the truncation of the neck. The circumferential legend CHRISTIAN IX reads along the left arc and KONGE AF DANMARK along the right arc, both in raised Latin characters. Below the bust, the mintmaster's initials VBP and the date 1898 are inscribed in the lower field. The portrait is executed in a naturalistic neoclassical style, framed by a continuous border of raised beads. |
