Gustaf VI Adolf acceded in October 1950, and the Swedish Riksbank moved quickly to redesign the circulating coinage for the new reign. The 1951 nickel patterns for the 1 Krona were part of that exploratory process — the production coins ultimately adopted a different metallic composition, with the circulating issue struck in nickel-clad steel rather than solid nickel. These patterns therefore document a material path that was considered and rejected.
