Obverse description The Icelandic coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield supported by the four Landvættir (guardian spirits): Griðungur the bull at lower left, Gammur the eagle at upper left, Dreki the dragon at upper right, and Bergrisi the giant at lower right. The shield bears a silver cross on blue and red quarters, with a rocky crag in the base quarter. The composition is rendered in a bold, heraldic style with the supporters arranged symmetrically around the central escutcheon.
