Obverse description The obverse features the crowned coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Baden at centre, depicting the diagonal bar of the Baden arms quartered with bezants, draped with an ermine-lined mantle tied at the upper corners with tasselled cords and surmounted by a grand ducal crown. The circular legend GROSSHERZOGTHUM BADEN runs along the periphery, interrupted by two small five-pointed stars at the base, with the date 1820 prominently displayed at the bottom of the field between the stars.
