| Aanvullende informatie |
Charles Theodore, Elector Palatine, had by 1786 already been ruling Bavaria for nearly a decade following the extinction of the Wittelsbach-Sulzbach line — an inheritance he accepted reluctantly and that left him deeply unpopular in Munich. Pattern strikes in gold at this weight were produced not for circulation but as presentation pieces, almost certainly for court distribution. A copper Konventionskreuzer of this type would have been worth a fraction of a pfennig in gold terms; the metal alone in this piece exceeds the face value by several hundred times.
