Additional information

George Frederick II ruled Brandenburg-Ansbach from 1678 until his death in 1703, a reign spent largely navigating the competing demands of the Habsburg emperor and the growing power of Brandenburg-Prussia to the north. The kreuzer denomination was the workhorse of small commerce in the Franconian circle, and issues of this type circulated hard through village markets and toll roads. KM#116 spans nearly a decade of production across multiple dies, and minor variations in the mintmaster's mark are documented within the type.
