Obverse description Central coat of arms of Baden — a diagonally divided shield — supported on either side by two rampant griffins facing inward, their wings displayed. The shield is surmounted by a large royal crown. The legend BADEN arcs across the upper field, while SCHEIDE- / MÜNZE appears in two lines across the lower field. The design is executed in high relief with fine milled border.

Reverse description The reverse bears an entirely typographic design with no pictorial elements. A circular legend around the periphery reads ZUR FEIER DER BAD.VERFASSUNG, referring to the celebration of the Baden Constitution. Within the central field, a five-line inscription reads VON GROSHERZOG / KARL / NACH 50 JHR. / AM 22.AUG. / 1868, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Baden Constitution granted by Grand Duke Karl on 22 August 1818. The denomination 1. KREUZER is inscribed across the lower field. All lettering is in bold Roman capitals with a fine milled border.
