| Obverse description | Central field features the Hungarian Royal arms: a vertically divided shield displaying the traditional Árpád stripes on the dexter side and the apostolic double cross rising from a green hillock on the sinister side, surmounted by the Hungarian Holy Crown with its characteristic bent cross finial. The shield is rendered in fine detail with cross-hatched engraving. A circular legend in Latin characters surrounds the design, reading MAGYAR KIRÁLYI VÁLTÓ PENZ, with the entire composition enclosed within a beaded border. |

By the late 1870s, the kreuzer was already a dying denomination — Austria-Hungary's gradual shift toward the decimal krone system made these copper pieces functionally obsolete before the series even closed. The Budapest mint struck them largely out of obligation to the existing monetary framework rather than any genuine commercial demand, which partly explains the wide variation in die quality seen across the decade-long run.
