Ferdinand III inherited the Bohemian crown in circumstances shaped entirely by his father's brutal suppression of the Protestant revolt — the Battle of White Mountain in 1620 had effectively ended Bohemian autonomy, and the Prague mint by the 1630s operated under direct Habsburg fiscal control.
