Aanvullende informatie

Charles William of Baden-Durlach spent the last years of his reign consumed by the founding and construction of Karlsruhe, a planned city he had laid out from scratch in 1715 around a radial street pattern centered on his new palace. By the time these kreuzer were struck in the early 1730s, the margraviate's finances were stretched thin by decades of building works, and small silver coinage circulated heavily in the underdeveloped local economy. Charles William died in 1738, leaving his successor Karl Friedrich a territory still adjusting to its new administrative capital.
