Charles VI ruled Bohemia as Holy Roman Emperor, and the Kuttenberg (Kutná Hora) mint was one of the oldest and most productive in central Europe — its silver drawn directly from the mines that had made Bohemia fabulously wealthy since the thirteenth century. By 1726, however, those mines were in serious decline, and the small silver denominations struck there reflect a mint working increasingly hard to justify its operation. The facility closed definitively in 1727, making this among the final issues to bear the Kuttenberg mint mark.
