Charles Theodor inherited the Electoral Palatinate in 1743 at age seventeen, and these small billon kreuzer were struck during the early years of his administration as the War of the Austrian Succession continued to destabilize Rhine territories. Billon coinage of this type was chronically debased across the German states during the 1740s, with silver content varying considerably even within a single mint's output — KM#320 is no exception.
