Charles III of Hungary — the Habsburg emperor known elsewhere as Charles VI — issued this kreuzer in the years following the Peace of Szatmár (1711), which ended the Rákóczi uprising and restored Habsburg authority over the kingdom. The settlement required Charles to reaffirm the Hungarian constitution and the rights of the nobility, a political compromise that shaped the fiscal and minting framework under which this coin was produced.
Hungarian silver issues of this period drew on ore from the rich mining operations centered at Körmöcbánya, the principal mint responsible for kreuzer coinage in the region.
