Obverse description Central interlaced ducal cypher 'CE' (for Carl Eugen) surmounted by an electoral coronet, the whole encircled by the collar chain of the Order of the Garter or a comparable order of chivalry. The date is divided by the monogram, with '17' appearing to the left and the final two digits to the right. Two symmetrical palm or laurel branches flank the composition in the lower field, lending a baroque decorative character to the design.
