Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays a bold, unadorned inscription arranged in three horizontal lines across the central field, reading 'LANDMÜNZE / 1 / KREUZER', with the date '1836' on the lowest line. The lettering is in a plain serif Roman style set within a simple decorative border of fine scrollwork or floral ornaments at top and bottom, characteristic of the utilitarian small-denomination coinage of the German states in the early nineteenth century. The overall design is austere and functional, reflecting the coin's role as everyday local currency.

Aanvullende informatie

Saxe-Meiningen was one of the more financially strained of the Ernestine duchies, and small billon issues like this kreuzer were a practical concession to that reality — the silver content kept low enough to make fractional coinage economically viable for a state with limited mint revenue. Bernhard II ruled from 1803 until his death in 1837, navigating the duchy through the post-Napoleonic reorganization of the German states and the pressures of the 1830s reform movements that destabilized several neighboring territories.

Production ceased with his death, making the 1837 date the final year of the type.
