Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the arms of the city of Augsburg — a pine cone above a saltire-style base — divide the date with numerals flanking the shield. The city arms are rendered in the bold, flat relief characteristic of mid-16th century hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, reading AVGVSTA VINDELICORVM with the date elements incorporated around the central device.
