Obverse description The cantonal arms of St. Gallen — a harp-shaped shield — displayed prominently in the center of the field, flanked on either side by crossed olive or laurel branches issuing from below. The circular legend CANTON ST. GALLEN runs along the upper periphery, separated from the coin's milled border by a fine inner ring. The overall design is rendered in a plain, utilitarian neoclassical style characteristic of early Swiss cantonal coinage.
