Aanvullende informatie

Frankfurt's status as a Free Imperial City gave its mint the right to strike its own coinage independently of any territorial prince — a privilege that became increasingly anomalous as the Holy Roman Empire fragmented in its final decades. The 1780 date places this piece squarely in the reign of Joseph II, whose centralizing reforms put persistent pressure on the minting rights of smaller imperial cities.

The KM#265.1 designation distinguishes this from closely related die variants in the same series. Billon content in Frankfurt kreuzer of this period was notoriously inconsistent, and contemporary complaints about substandard alloy composition from city-issued small change appear in Frankfurt municipal records of the era.
