In 1957, Czechoslovakia was still navigating the monetary aftermath of the brutal 1953 currency reform — a redenomination that wiped out private savings at punishing exchange rates and remains one of the most resented economic interventions of the communist period. Trial strikes from this era reflect the Státní banka's ongoing experimentation with base metal compositions as the state sought cheaper coinage solutions. The iron-magnesium composition tested here was ultimately rejected for circulation.
