1 Körtling - Kaspar I of Hörsel

Corvey's monetary output in the mid-sixteenth century was shaped almost entirely by abbatial politics and the abbey's increasingly precarious position between secular territorial ambitions and its own diminishing independence. Kaspar I of Hörsel, who led the house from 1547 to 1554, presided during a period when the Prince-Bishops of Paderborn and the Duchy of Brunswick were actively contesting Corvey's traditional rights — including its mint privileges. The Körtling denomination itself was a north German small silver type, and Corvey's issues of it were never large-scale productions.
