Székesfehérvári Légszeszgyár és Vegyiművek — a gas and chemical works company in Székesfehérvár — issued this 1 Korona emergency note during the chaotic monetary collapse of 1919, when the disintegration of Austria-Hungary and successive regime changes in Hungary left small-denomination coinage almost entirely absent from circulation. Industrial and commercial firms across Hungary filled the void by printing their own szükségpénz, or necessity money, redeemable only at the issuing enterprise. The Adamo MSZK catalogue documents dozens of such local issues from this single year alone.
Corporate emergency notes of this type were rarely accepted beyond the factory gate.
