Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing laureate and draped effigy of Emperor Francis Joseph I, engraved in high relief with fine portrait detail. The circumferential legend reads FERENCZ JÓZSEF I·K·A·CS·ÉS M·H·S·D·O·AP·KIR·, an abbreviated Hungarian-Latin titulature translating as 'Francis Joseph, by the grace of God Emperor of Austria and Apostolic King of Hungary, Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia.' The mint mark K·B· appears in the lower field, denoting the Körmöcbánya (Kremnica) mint. A continuous beaded border frames the design. The engraving is attributed to József Reiser.

Aanvullende informatie

The korona system introduced in 1892 replaced the gulden under the Austro-Hungarian monetary reform that brought the empire onto the gold standard — the silver fractional coinage, including this piece, circulated as subsidiary currency within that framework. Hungary insisted on issuing coins under its own name rather than sharing types with Austria, a persistent constitutional friction that had defined the compromise government since 1867.

The type spans fourteen years of production across the Budapest mint, with minor die variations documented under the Adamo reference system.
