Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936 before his coronation ever took place, making any coin struck in his name a rarity of circumstance rather than design. Kutch, under Maharao Khengarji III, issued coinage in the suzerain's name as was customary for princely states — but the window between accession in January and abdication in December was narrow enough that production was extremely limited. Most Indian princely states never got a coin into circulation at all before the issue became obsolete.
Edward VIII coins from Kutch are among the few tangible artifacts of his eleven-month reign struck in silver.
