Novorossiya — the self-declared confederation of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics — issued this kopek in 2015 as a statement of political separation from Ukraine, though the currency never achieved meaningful circulation. The separatist government announced the novorossiysky rubl as its official currency, but in practice the region operated on Russian rubles throughout the conflict. These coins were struck in limited quantities and distributed largely as collector pieces and propaganda artifacts rather than functional money.
