Obverse description A mounted horseman, representing St. George, is depicted in right profile at center, raising a spear to slay a dragon beneath the horse's hooves, rendered in a bold, archaic style characteristic of early Petrine coinage. The mintmaster's initials НДЗ appear in the lower central field beneath the horse. A partial Cyrillic legend runs along the upper and lateral periphery, reading the titles of Tsar Peter Alexeyevich. The coin's border is formed by a ring of alternating raised dots. The overall design follows the traditional Muscovite 'horseman' (всадник) type, here adapted for the new milled copper coinage.
