Obverse description The State Coat of Arms of the Soviet Union occupies the central field, depicting a hammer and sickle superimposed on a globe, surrounded by wheat sheaves bound with ribbons and surmounted by a five-pointed star. The design features seven ribbon orbits encircling the wreath, corresponding to the seven Soviet republics represented at the time of issue. The circular legend is divided, with the revolutionary motto arcing along the upper periphery and the Cyrillic abbreviation for the USSR positioned along the lower border.
