Chinese grain rationing coupons like this one operated through a parallel distribution system that ran alongside the state food supply network from the 1950s until the early 1990s, when market liberalization made them largely obsolete. Yizheng, a county-level city in Jiangsu, would have administered its own local coupons separately from provincial-level issues — meaning this stamp was only redeemable within Yizheng's own grain bureau network, not interchangeable with Jiangsu provincial coupons.
The national grain rationing system was formally abolished in 1993. Coupons issued in 1991 were among the last waves produced before the entire apparatus wound down.
