Reverse description The reverse bears a Tamil inscription occupying the majority of the flan, executed in a cursive, somewhat stylized Tamil script typical of the Madurai Sethupati coinage of the early eighteenth century. The legend reads 'ஸ்ரீ உதயா' (Sri Udaya), a royal epithet associated with the ruling Sethupati dynasty. The characters are arranged in two or three lines within the irregular circular field, struck with characteristic hammered irregularity. The surface shows natural patination consistent with circulation wear, with slight weakness at the edges due to the hand-struck production method.
