The Nayaks of Dharmapuri were a minor Telugu chieftainship operating under the diminishing authority of the Mysore kingdom during the eighteenth century, a period when dozens of small regional powers were striking their own copper kasu to meet purely local transactional demand. Ramanappa is among the less-documented rulers of this line, and the precise succession dates remain contested in the scholarship.
Garuda-type kasu from Nayak mints were struck by hammer between locally cut dies, which accounts for the frequent off-centering seen across the series.
