Konerirayan was among the semi-autonomous chiefs operating under Vijayanagara's feudatory structure during the reign of Praudha Deva Raya and into the Saluva period — a political arrangement that allowed regional strongmen to issue their own copper coinage provided it circulated locally and did not challenge the empire's gold and silver hierarchy. Copper kasu of this type rarely traveled far, which is why die states and surface conditions vary so dramatically between surviving examples.
