| Description de l’avers | Plain typeset check on cream paper, with the issuer's name Кооператів "ПОМОЩЬ" printed in bold Cyrillic letterpress across the top border. The large denomination "1 карб." and the word ЧЕК dominate the centre field, with the written-out value (іден карбованець) below; a circular violet cooperative stamp is applied at centre, with the Chairman of the Board's handwritten signature to the right. Series A designation and serial number appear at lower left, with a validity clause at foot stating the check is void without the cooperative's seal. |

One of hundreds of local scrip notes that flooded western Ukraine in 1919 as central authority collapsed between retreating German forces, the short-lived Ukrainian People's Republic, and incoming Bolshevik and Polish armies. Dubno, in Volhynia, changed hands repeatedly during this period, and conventional currency was either hoarded, devalued overnight, or simply unavailable. Consumer cooperatives like "Допомога" filled the gap by issuing their own vouchers, redeemable for goods rather than guaranteed by any monetary authority.
The stamp serves as the only authentication mechanism — no engraved plates, no watermark. Printed locally, almost certainly on whatever stock was at hand.
