Somesvara Deva ruled the Shakambhari Chahamanas during a period of consolidating Rajput power in northern India, roughly a generation before the dynasty's catastrophic defeat at the Second Battle of Tarain in 1192, which ended Chahamana rule entirely. His jitals follow the bull-and-horseman type that had circulated across the northwestern subcontinent since the post-Gurjara-Pratihara period — a monetary convention so entrenched that even subsequent Ghurid conquerors initially continued striking recognizable variants of it. Billon content varies considerably across this type.
