Issued by Fukien Province in 1932, this small silver jiao commemorates the Canton Martyrs — the revolutionary figures executed in the failed April 1911 uprising against the Qing, just months before the dynasty actually fell. The Huanghuagang uprising of April 27th cost the lives of 72 confirmed martyrs, though contemporary revolutionaries believed the number far higher.
Provincial commemorative silver of this type saw limited production runs and often poor distribution, leaving most examples in comparatively fresh condition despite the turbulent decade surrounding their issue.
