| Reverse description | The reverse features a central beaded inner circle enclosing a cross pattée with a pellet at its centre, surrounded by a beaded ring, all set within a circular border. The imperial legend in uncial Latin letters runs around the outer field, invoking the name of Emperor Frederick. The cross motif, typical of Milanese denari struck in the name of Holy Roman Emperors, occupies the centre of the flan with pellets or small globules in the angles. The legend is partially visible given the irregular flan and variable die alignment. The hammered fabric gives the design a characteristic medieval flatness and slight unevenness. |
