Obverse description Central field bears a three-line inscription of the city name MEDIOLANVM arranged horizontally across the flan. The legend is framed above and below by a rosette flanked by trefoil ornaments, creating a decorative border typical of Milanese communal coinage of the late medieval period. The lettering is rendered in a Gothic lapidary style characteristic of northern Italian hammered issues of the late 13th and early 14th centuries.
