| Popis líce | The obverse reproduces the face of the first Ukrainian hryvnia banknote issued in 1994, rendered in fine silver in high relief. Central to the design is the portrait effigy of Volodymyr the Great (Grand Duke of Kyiv, 980–1015), the ruler who united the Eastern Slavic lands under Kyiv and initiated the Christianization of Rus in 988–989. The legend in Cyrillic reads НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) along with the denomination ОДНА ГРИВНЯ and the name ВОЛОДИМИР ВЕЛИКИЙ. The facsimile signature of the Chairman of the Board of the Bank appears within the design field, replicating the banknote original. The composition faithfully captures the typographic and artistic layout of the paper note in precious metal format. |
