Reverse description The reverse reproduces the back face of the first Ukrainian hryvnia banknote of 1994, struck in fine silver with faithful detail. The central vignette depicts the ruins of Chersonesus (Херсонес), the ancient Greek colony founded in the 6th century BC by settlers from Heraclea Pontica on the southwestern coast of the Crimean Peninsula. The Cyrillic legend НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ (National Bank of Ukraine) and the denomination ОДНА ГРИВНЯ frame the architectural scene, along with the date 1994 and the inscription РУЇНИ ХЕРСОНЕСА (The Ruins of Chersonesus). Ornamental elements and numeral denominators appear in each corner of the rectangular field, replicating the banknote design in precise numismatic reproduction.
