Heol is a local complementary currency (monnaie locale complémentaire) that circulates in the Pays de Brest area of Brittany. Like most French MLCs operating under the 2014 Social and Solidarity Economy law, each unit in circulation is backed one-for-one by a euro held in a partner account, which limits speculative use and ties the currency to participating local businesses. The holographic strip is notably sophisticated for a community currency — most French MLCs at this scale use simpler UV or numbering-based security.
