| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a large crowned 'W' cypher monogram of Landgrave William VIII, rendered in bold relief. The initial 'Z' appears to the left and 'H' to the right of the crowned monogram, standing for 'Zu Hanau' (of Hanau), flanking the royal cypher. The mural crown surmounting the 'W' is depicted in fine detail with arched bands and orbs. The design is unencircled, occupying the full flan with no peripheral legend, giving the coin a distinctly monogram-centric appearance typical of small German territorial copper coinage of the mid-18th century. |
