| Obverse description | A cross pattée divides the field into four quarters, each containing a letter of the abbreviated legend I-O-H-S. A four-petalled flower or quatrefoil ornament is placed at the center of the cross, serving as the central device. The strike is irregular, consistent with medieval hammered coinage, and the flan edges are uneven. The design is rendered in a simple but deliberate Gothic style typical of small feudal Rhenish issues of the early fifteenth century. |
