Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate cursive royal cipher 'FC' (for Friedrich Christian, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth), rendered in an ornate interlaced monogram with decorative foliate flourishes and scrollwork at the base. The cipher is surmounted by a princely crown. The coin is bordered by a fine milled or toothed rim. The overall design is characteristic of mid-18th century German princely coinage, with the monogram occupying virtually the entire flan.
