Francis Josias ruled Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld from 1745 until his death in 1764, spending most of that period as an Austrian field marshal — the Seven Years' War consumed his attention far more than domestic administration. These copper hellers were struck during the war's final years, when small-denomination coinage across the German states was frequently debased, contracted to outside minters, or simply neglected. The KM#54.2 designation distinguishes this from an earlier die variety, a distinction that matters more to completists than to the general collector.
