Obverse description The arms of Saxe-Hildburghausen, consisting of a quartered shield displaying the Saxon barry with a central inescutcheon, surmounted by an ornate ducal crown with a cross finial. The shield is set within a baroque cartouche with elaborate foliate and scrolled mantling extending to either side, filling the field. The entire device is rendered in a bold, low-relief style characteristic of small copper coinage of the period. The coin is bordered by a toothed or beaded inner rim.
