Obverse description The crowned Frankfurt eagle displayed at center, with wings spread and talons extended, rendered in the traditional heraldic style of the Free City. The eagle bears a crown above its head and faces to the right. Below the eagle, at the base of the coin, appear the engraver's initials 'G.F.B.' flanking a central 'F' within parentheses, denoting the Frankfurt mint and the engraver Johann Georg Bunsen. The coin's rim is bordered by a fine toothed or beaded inner circle.
