Münster's copper heller issues of 1620 fall directly within the Kipper- und Wipperzeit — the currency debasement crisis that swept the Holy Roman Empire beginning around 1619, when dozens of mints, municipal and princely alike, raced to produce debased small coinage and pocket the difference in bullion value. Copper hellers from city mints during this period circulated aggressively and wore quickly, which makes problem-free survivors harder to locate than mintage alone would suggest.
