| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the coat-of-arms of Weinsberg — a hand — displayed on a shield set within a Gothic trilobe (trefoil) frame, rendered in the late medieval heraldic style. The trilobe is ornamented with cusped lobes and a small finial at the apex. Double annulet stops punctuate the surrounding circumferential legend. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border, with the circular Latin legend running between the beaded border and the coin's irregular rim. |

Maximilian I spent much of 1499 in military failure — the Swabian War against the Swiss Confederation ended that same year with the Peace of Basel, effectively conceding Swiss independence from imperial jurisdiction and ending Habsburg ambitions of reasserting feudal authority over the cantons. Small silver fractions like this Halbschilling were the working currency of that conflict's economic disruption, circulating across a frontier that was, by year's end, no longer truly imperial.
