The Guldiner struck at Hall in the Inn Valley is among the earliest large silver coins in European history — Maximilian's treasury needed a silver denomination that could rival the gold florin in face value, and the Hall mint's access to Tyrolean silver made it the natural site for the experiment. The result helped establish the template that Bohemian and Saxon mints would follow when producing the coins that eventually gave the world the word "dollar."
