| Description de l’avers | Three-quarter length effigy of Emperor Maximilian I facing right, crowned and clad in armor, with a floral scepter resting over his right shoulder and his left hand grasping a sword at the cross-guard. The portrait is rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of early sixteenth-century South Netherlandish die-cutting. The figure is contained within an inner pearl border. The surrounding legend in Gothic-influenced Roman capitals identifies the emperor as Ever-August Roman Emperor. |

| Description du revers | Heraldic composition featuring five shields arranged in a cruciform pattern: the crowned Imperial double-headed eagle occupies the center, flanked to the left by the crowned arms of Old Hungary and to the right by the arms of Austria surmounted by an archducal hat; below are the arms of Burgundy and Styria. The entire composition is interlaced with the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, signifying Maximilian's role as Sovereign of that chivalric order. The surrounding legend proclaims him King and Mighty Prince of many provinces of Europe. |
